As one of the first concrete steps toward implementing the CID, the Commission introduced the Strategic Action Plan for the Automotive Sector, which underscores the urgent need to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness in battery manufacturing and secure resilient, cost-competitive supply chains for critical battery components and raw materials. This action plan prioritises battery innovation and positions next-generation battery technologies as a strategic area to protect Europe’s sovereignty and leadership in clean mobility.
