Northvolt plans to build Europe’s largest energy storage systems plant in Poland
Swedish lithium-ion battery manufacturer Northvolt announced today its plan to establish Europe’s largest factory for energy storage solutions in Poland. This is yet another confirmation of the significance of the stationary battery storage market.
Northvolt will invest $200 million to build this new energy storage systems factory in Gdansk, Poland. The production is scheduled to begin in 2022 with an initial annual capacity of 5 GWh.
“Securing battery cell manufacturing capacity in Europe is key for its industrial future, but what is equally critical is the industrial capacity for integrating cells into real-world solutions. It is this that the new factory will deliver – sophisticated, sustainable energy storage systems to support the transformation of Europe’s electricity grid and its industry,” said Peter Carlsson, Co-Founder and CEO, Northvolt.
