31 start-ups to pitch to be recognised as one of the top innovators in electrical storage

Screened from over 200 international applicants, start-ups must pitch their solution to a panel of specialists from academia, industry and investment. The start-ups that stand out for their innovation and sound business sense will be announced winners at the event, which takes place on 21 March. One exceptional start-up among them will be awarded a cash prize of €100,000.

The global call for start-ups was launch under the umbrella of the European Battery Alliance (EBA), where InnoEnergy plays a pivotal role. The call was launched last autumn to an overwhelming response!

Of 222 applicants, 75 per cent were European, with the remaining quarter distributed throughout the world: from the African continent, Australia, Russia, Asia and the US.

The jury comprises key figures in sustainable energy: Akira Yoshino, the inventor of the lithium-ion battery; Edel Sheridan, the world-renowned researcher on electrochemical systems and batteries, and Werner Tillmetz, who has served in several executive management activities in the German electrochemical industry. From InnoEnergy, Bo Normark, thematic field leader for energy storage, and Matthias Machnig, the former German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, will sit on the jury among others.

The 31 finalists are assessed on all aspects of their evolution and potential: technological readiness, innovation, value proposition, business idea, addressable market size, scalability of product or service, team structure and impact potential. Among them, 11 countries and 28 cities are represented, with solutions presented in the three major fields of electrical storage: storage systems, e-mobility / transportation, and general industry applications.

The winners will secure participation in the InnoEnergy Highway or Boostway programme, ensuring vital support and mentoring in all key dimensions: technology, marketing and sales, team building, industrialisation and financing. They will also benefit from access to a huge network of more than 430 partners. These start-ups will gain the experience and potential for their solution in electrical storage to reach the market faster, and stronger.
