Location of charging infrastructure for heavy vehicles across Europe identified

In a new study made for the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), Fraunhofer ISI has pinpointed the location of charging infrastructure for battery electric trucks. The study is based on real travel data of 400 000 trucks collected from seven truck OEMs across Europe.

Data shows that the majority of the stops for long-haul trucks is below 3 hours and that about one third to half of the stops are close to motorways. One conclusion based on today’s driving pattern is that fast charging for heavy vehicles is a necessary complement to depot charging when the this part of the transport sector is electrified. In addition, the location of the charging stations might very well be at existing truck stops which requires solutions to deliver the enough power.
