Battery drive train for heavy-duty long-haul road transport
Scania’s latest announcement shows that it is increasingly likely that battery drive train will be chosen for heavy-duty long-haul trucks.
The Swedish manufacturer of heavy trucks and busses indeed decided to abandon hydrogen fuel cells. The reason is of course the extremely rapid development on battery and electric drive trains. A few month ago, we reported on the case of heavy long-distance trucks (40 tonnes) with battery drive trains that could already be operated since they fit very well with European drivers regulations (compulsory rest after 4,5 hours). Scania now puts forward this argument to justify their ambitions on electric trucks. We see similar initiatives from other manufactures of heavy duty trucks.
