Cobalt, nickel, other battery metals face supply crunch by 2020s
Battery minerals will become “the new oil” as electrification of the transport sector is accelerating. This highlights the importance of domestic mineral resources for Europe. The European Battery Alliance encourages the development of a complete value chain for batteries including mining, cell production and recycling. Coupled with sustainability targets, this will ensure that both a secured future supply and a responsible supply chain. Forming strategic alliances along the value chain will derisk investments in mining and recycling, thus increasing the supply base for minerals.
