Daimler joins Stellantis and TotalEnergies in ACC venture to expand European battery network
Daimler announced last week that they will become an equal shareholder in Automotive Cells Company (ACC), along with Stellantis and TotalEnergies. This is another confirmation that European companies are aligning in strategic alliances along the battery value chain and that the strategic plan for Europe outlined by the European Battery Alliance is delivering. ACC was formed in 2020 in the frame of the Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) initiative authorised by the European Commission specifically for the battery value chain.
This announcement is following the previous one from July 2021 when Daimler notified to be ready to go fully electric by the end of the decade. With the engagement in ACC, the German automotive corporation has now demonstrated how they can serve their production facilities in Europe with battery cells from Europe.
