Morrow Batteries inaugurates new facility in Norway, boosting European battery industry

Last Friday, Morrow Batteries officially inaugurated the first giga-scale LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) cell manufacturing site in Europe. Located in Arendal, Southern Norway, the factory has already begun test production and will have a capacity of 1GWh of LFP cells once fully operational.

The inauguration of Morrow Batteries’ facility is a significant development for the European battery industry and the emerging battery ecosystem in Europe. It is encouraging to see another home-grown gigaproject taking shape on European soil, enhancing the region’s strategic autonomy in battery production. Besides, the addition of Morrow Batteries as a new player at gigascale is a positive step towards diversifying and strengthening Europe’s battery technology landscape with LFP-based products.

This new milestone follows last year opening of Norway’s largest battery research and innovation hub, the Morrow Research Centre. This centre aims to drive innovation and research in battery technology, being responsible for advanced material testing and battery cell testing, including experimenting with new processes and materials.

We at EBA250 welcome Morrow Batteries’ new facility and research centre as they will contribute to the sustainability and resilience of the European battery sector. As Europe continues to push towards carbon neutrality by 2050, the advancements in battery technology and manufacturing will be crucial in meeting our ambitious targets.
