The role of charging infrastructure in accelerating electric heavy-vehicles
We are happy to relay that we hosted the 3rd Virtual Meetup of 2021 on July 13th, which focused on the role of charging infrastructure in accelerating electric heavy-duty vehicles.
Bo Normark, from EIT InnoEnergy kickstarted the session by providing to all of our stakeholder the latest market outlook when it comes to Heavy Duty Vehicles. Following, Anders Berger from Volvo Group gave a keynote speech on the electrification of trucks and the outlook on the need for charging infrastructure. We also welcomed Dr. Patrick Plötz from Fraunhofer ISI who provided an overview from the report on Truck Stop Locations in Europe. Last but not least, Johan Söderbom, from EIT InnoEnergy moderated a panel discussion with the participation of Lucien Mathieu from Transport & Environment, Lucie Beaumel from EGVIA and the above-mentioned speakers.
Here are the key takeaways that we would like to highlight from the session:
- Europe has definitely taken big steps towards electric heavy transportation – both in terms of the vehicles and infrastructure.
- There are still challenges to be solved that cannot follow the same strategies as for passenger cars. Thus, the support from research and development associations is crucial.
- We are possibly on the fastest track possible in order to decarbonize the industrial sector and we should keep it this way.
We also would like to highlight the publication of the “Fit for 55” package on July 14th that include detailed requirements for charging infrastructure. Kindly find further information following this link: https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/IP_21_3541
